Course 5: Biblical Analyses of Genesis

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This unique course is given by Rabbi Moshe Weiner, on a perspective for exegesis of the Hebrew Bible that has been largely neglected until now.  You will be closely examining the first chapter of Genesis in ways that are specifically intended for Gentiles (all Non-Jews), yet rooted in traditional teachings from famous Torah Sages. This course is also designed to serve as an introduction to the inner dimensions of Torah that relate to Gentiles as "Children of Noah," and that reveal the connection of the scriptural verses to issues in life that arise for every individual. From this understanding, you will explore the Hebrew Bible's paradigm within which every person can better fulfill his or her own purpose and mission in life, while having a greater positive effect on others.

A prime example of the deeper - yet universal - teachings from Genesis that the course will examine is God's question to Adam, "Where are you?" (Genesis 3:9). Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liady (the "Alter Rebbe") expounded this for a Russian official in the Czar's government, as God's perpetual call to every human being: "You have been allotted a certain amount of time for fulfilling your soul's mission in this lifetime. Where are you in the process of improving your personal life and the world at large?"
